Loco Chicken Test: All Just Hot Air?
This time we headed to Loco Chicken on Langstrasse in Zürich, the new chicken concept that's popping up all over Switzerland right now. We ordered online, picked it up by car, and as always, paid for it ourselves and tested it honestly. Inside the yellow Loco Chicken bag we found fries for a proud 6 francs, two different dip sauces (Garlic Mayo and a spicy Sriracha Mayo), Chicken Wings, Chicken Tenders and two burgers, all neatly wrapped in checkered paper and labeled.
We kicked things off with the fries and the cheese powder meant to be sprinkled on top. The seasoning is a cool idea, but flavor-wise it just didn't quite convince us, it stayed a bit bland. If you like things mild though, you might still enjoy it. The Chicken Wings were the biggest letdown: barely any seasoning, super mild, almost tasteless. The Chicken Tenders had a slight KFC-ish vibe going on, but they were also way too mild and flat in flavor. Both items clearly failed the test.
But the absolute low point was the burger: putting ketchup on a chicken burger just doesn't work in our book, it totally throws off the balance. The second burger, a Peri-Peri version, was slightly better but still way too bland with no real wow factor.
Bottom line: Loco Chicken is a fast food spot that scores points visually with its bold yellow-red design and cool branding, but flavor-wise it leaves a lot to be desired. Our rating: 3 out of 10 chickens. If you're hoping for spicy, crispy chicken goodness, you'll probably be disappointed here. But if you just want to check it out for yourself, it might still be worth forming your own opinion.
